Voodoo Ray’s, Shoreditch

I’m a huge fan of proper New York style pizza, and one of my London favourites for their 22 inch pizza sold by the slice is Voodoo Ray’s. So when a second branch of the Dalston eatery opened up a few months ago in one of my most frequented places, Shoreditch, I was over the moon!

I go to a lot of events in the area, and I’m always hungry, so knowing I can grab a crisp pizza slice and frozen margarita on my way home makes the effort of trekking to East London so much more worthwhile.

I’ll admit – I’ve had better pizza. The crust could be puffier and they could be a bit more generous with the cheese. But the toppings are interesting and there is something for everyone – last night my vegan friend Sophie tried the Queen Vegan (Napoli sauce, fresh tomatos, mushrooms, artichoke, red onions, jalapenos and herb gremolata) and loved it.

My personal favourite is the Buffalo Margherita (buffalo mozzarella, marinated tomatos, tomato sauce and basil – I have so much love for basil on pizza!). I’m usually such a carnivore, but when pizza is good I like to keep it simple.

Prices are good too, starting at only £3.30 for a Regular Slice (fior de latte mozzarella, Napoli tomato sauce and oregano).

I’d definitely recommend visiting if you’re nearby – the atmosphere is great too, it’s really chilled and you can always take your pizza in a box up on the Boxpark roof.

Psst… If you love pizza and are free on 30th October 2015, Voodoo Ray’s are hosting an old school pizza party as part of Yelptoberfest, RSVP here!
