I had a couple more little additions this Friday 13th. I just realised I haven’t actually posted about my tattoos or piercings yet – I have a few, I’ll probably tell you about them at some point. I did take part in Tattoo Talk with The Guy With The Owl Tattoo a few weeks ago so if you’re interested take a look at his blog.
Anyway, I love Friday 13th tattoo specials. Although most of my tattoos are larger, custom pieces, I like little fun things sometimes – I’ve started filling my left thigh with random smaller pieces that catch my eye.
Waiting it out with my friends for the last minute flash designs by my favourite artists (I always keep an eye on what Haunted come up with in particular), or turning up at random studios who don’t show their flash in advance (like The Circle) is loads of fun. And my friends on social media get really hyped up for it a few days before.
This year I went with my tattoo buddy, Georgia (we have matching heart shaped fruit friendship tattoos on our bums) to Laura Gascoyne at Never Say Die in Croydon and Curtis Pettigrove at Haunted in Holloway.
The decision to go to Laura was REALLY last minute. Laura is an amazingly talented (and seriously cool) apprentice at Never Say Die – I’ve fallen in love with some of her designs and have plans to work with her on an evil toy piece. She was one of very few artists offering actual £13 tattoos (most places are £31, or £66, or £130 – or maybe that’s just London?) – not only were they cheaper than most other designs I’d seen, a lot of them were really me. I wanted more than one from her – she had an adorable ice cream (which I’m going back for during the week) and a spaceship, but I only had time for one so I went for a lotus flower.
Now I know a lotus flower isn’t very Friday 13th, but it was perfect to go in a little spot I wanted to fill. The placement of one of my large pieces has made a sternum or rib piece impossible, so I’d been wanting a little something just under the centre of my bra. And since my large side pieces are both Japanese designs, one with lotus flowers, this little one goes perfectly. I really love it, and I think Laura did a fantastic job, her linework is perfect.
Georgia also got a piece from Laura – some cute love hearts on her foot. She was wearing the perfect outfit – featuring the Black Milk Clothing Candy Hearts Wifey Top.
Later in the day we went to Haunted, where I had a bit of a mash up of two of Curtis’ flash designs. Freddy and Jason, so a bit more Friday 13th than my lotus flower! I’m a huge horror fan, and these were the perfect size and shape to fit in a gap on my thigh (above a previous Friday 13th/Valentines design I got from Steve Baron at Haunted earlier this year).
The picture I have of them at the moment is terrible – I’m quite bruised under Jason’s mask still.
I’d love to see anyone else’s Friday 13th tattoos!
All photos my own (with assistance from Georgia).
